Pfizer Colleagues Saddle up for Charity

    Media Release
    Friday 8th September 2023

Today will see over 230 colleagues from Pfizer Ireland’s 5,000 strong employee network set off on 300km cycle, starting from the Grange Castle site in Dublin this morning and finishing tomorrow in Pfizer’s Ringaskiddy site. The purpose of the cycle is to raise awareness of cancer and raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

John Sourke, VP of Operations, Drug Substance will take part in the cycle and commented:

“This charity cycle is for a cause very close to many hearts within the Pfizer Ireland community and the work they put in to make this a success is testament to our colleagues. This is a completely staff led initiative and each and every cyclist will have a loved one or friend in their mind when completing the 300km journey.”

“Pfizer Grange Castle will be the beginning of our journey from there we will move towards Kilkenny passing through Newcastle and Naas before having a pit-stop at Pfizer Newbridge site. After some refreshments and refuelling the cyclists will then continue moving on through Kilcullen, Athy, Castlecomer and into Kilkenny. We will depart Kilkenny on the morning of day two and progress through Clonmel, Lismore, Tallow, and Middleton before finishing up at the Pfizer Ringaskiddy site, covering 300 Kilometres in total.”

Rosemary Simmons, Head of Fundraising, Irish Cancer Society said:

“We are so grateful for the continued support of Pfizer Ireland and their employees. Each year we are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm which is displayed by participants at the 300k Pfizer Cycle from Pfizer Grange Castle to Pfizer Ringaskiddy.

“In Ireland, an estimated 44,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year. At the Irish Cancer Society, we know the impact that a cancer diagnosis can have on patients and their families. Donations raised through the Pfizer Cycle will go toward funding life-changing cancer research projects and vital cancer support services. This support ensures we can continue to be there for every single person impacted by cancer when they need it most.

“We wish all Pfizer employees the very best of luck and a safe, enjoyable journey.”
